I’d suffered from a cycle of anxiety, panic attacks, wavering
self-confidence and depression for years. I knew I needed to break the
cycle and didn’t want to just mask things with medication – I just
wanted to feel relaxed, happy and more in control, more self-assured –
more me again. After some research, I found Sam’s details online and the
results have been life changing. I was astounded at the difference I
felt after just a few sessions and continue to. Thank you so much Sam! –

Lynn – Breaking the cycle of anxiety

I went to Sam initially looking for help to stop smoking in 2017 which to this day has been a great success.

However, in 2018/19 I underwent surgery twice and was diagnosed with Coeliac disease thought to have been triggered by one of the surgeries I underwent for two hernias, I found this next year of my life extremely difficult, frustrating, and stressful.

My whole lifestyle had to change, I kept getting sick, my work was being impacted and I felt my mental health was taking a beating.

I contacted Sam to see if she could give me some advice on how to deal with this as I was really finding it hard to be around people, I had developed anxiety problems, even sitting in meetings with colleagues and clients I’d known for many years was painful.

I started doing weekly sessions with Sam to talk about these issues and to learn how to relax, be myself again and build my confidence, the effect of this was clear to me from session one, I left feeling energised with a sense of calm, I wasn’t back to myself but after a few sessions before the pandemic kicked in I was feeling great and continue to feel great to this day even with the last 18 months of isolation.

As someone who has worked in the oil & gas industry for the last 25 years which is a very male, macho and testosterone dominated industry and as a company director these things can be hard to overcome, deal with and more importantly talk about without a stigma being attached.

Mental health is the key ingredient to everything in life, from family to work it can have a devastating effect on everything around you, most people don’t realise this until they hit rock bottom, they don’t see the fall happening or don’t want to acknowledge that its happening, it can be anything from an increased use in alcohol to your palms sweating in a crowd, the important thing is realising its there and making the right choices.

Sam was my right choice; I will be forever grateful for the work we did together in getting me back to mentally fighting fit.

Stop Smoking/Anxiety

I worked with Sam for around 1 month surrounding a bad break up that had left me feeling empty, anxious and unable to see past this relationship.

Sam showed me many techniques to help overcome this, one which I found very helpful and eye opening was the rewind showing me the things I constantly felt sad about were boring and a waste of time remembering.

Sam also showed me another technique which I can use in everyday life called the swish.

This is something I can use for any upcoming situation which I feel anxious about. I have used this a few times since my last session with her and it really helps me put things into perspective.

After working with Sam I finally feel in a more positive place knowing that ultimately I am in control and can work through anything.

Relationship Break Up

As a teacher I have helplessly observed that mental health issues, especially anxiety, in young people are worryingly prevalent at this time and the numbers are rising. These kids desperately need help and in my and my son’s experience, hypnotherapy from someone like Sam could definitely be the answer…

B was a typical young lad of 11 years old who went from being full of fun, carefree and happy to anxious, scared, sad and panicky. As parents we were so worried and felt despairingly helpless. Sam was recommended to us so we gave her a call and we are so glad to this day that we did. Sam enabled our son to take control of his own anxiety. He has built up resilience to stressful situations by using the tools she gave him, which he not only still uses day-to-day but will be with him for the rest of his life. We couldn’t believe the positive change in him and the progress he made in such a short space of time with Sam.

This is B’s take on it:

“Sam is really approachable and experienced. The fact she went over the science bit at the start helped me understand why I was feeling the way I was. She finds out what works for you personally and has helped me to manage my anxiety. I feel like a different person and back to being happy again.”

I had a couple of successful face-to-face sessions with Sam before the lockdown was announced. When Sam suggested we could continue our sessions online using WhatsApp I remained positive, but slightly apprehensive about how it would work and how effective it would be. My concerns immediately disappeared the moment my first online session started. The session and the way I felt was no different – Sam was there and the communication was the same, but I was at home, in my own space, which for someone who has anxiety has turned out to be an extra positive. Through our sessions, Sam has enabled me to focus on ‘what’s around me’ and the positive things I have done or plan to do. Sam has remained focussed and professional throughout and has given me the tools to stretch myself to do things I have found difficult or indeed never been able to do before….in all the 15 years of living near Slains Castle, I had always been afraid to see it due to my fear of cliffs and heights….today I succeeded and have the pictures to prove it! Throughout my sessions with Sam I feel she has helped me to ‘see the world in full colour’! I cannot recommend Sam highly enough. Thank you

“I live in the US and booked 5 sessions with Sam to coincide with a visit to my daughter in Aberdeen mid March. Unfortunately due to the pandemic this trip was postponed as were my sessions. After a couple of weeks it became apparent I wouldn’t be able to travel for sometime so it was agreed with Sam that we could do the sessions via face time. My problem is severe white coat syndrome which means my blood pressure goes through the roof at even a whiff of a white coat! In fact was so bad that even testing it myself was high until around attempt number 3! In the US everything even mildly medical involves taking BP so was a real problem. We are 6 hours behind the UK which meant the sessions were super early but as I m an early riser wasn’t really an issue. Sam is lovely and very professional and immediately put me at ease. I can honestly say that I’m doing much better now with my BP testing and feel much happier and less stressed about the whole thing. I can highly recommend a course of treatment for whatever ails you I believe you can get the same results using FaceTime etc and quite honestly in these troubled times when many of us are becoming increasingly anxious and stressed this would be the perfect time to start your sessions so you can come out of this pandemic stronger and healthier and ready to take on whatever life throws at you!”

“I had never thought of hypnotherapy until a neighbour recommended Sam to me when I was going through a traumatic marriage breakdown. I was at the lowest point in my life and was finding each day a real struggle for myself and to be there for my 2 young children. Since I have started my sessions with Sam I have never looked back, Sam understood everything I was going through, explained it to me and has helped me with my daily struggles. Simple things in my life I could no longer mentally manage to do and each week Sam helped me deal with situations that I was struggling with. Instantly I felt a connection and felt much better mentally and physically. Situations that I feared no longer became the big fear and I faced them with the skills and thoughts which Sam has taught me. My friends and family have noticed such a positive change in me and that is all down to the work Sam does with me. When lockdown came I was worried how effective my sessions with Sam would be via FaceTime and they are just as effective as face to face. I feel it is very important to keep up the journey with Sam using FaceTime. It is a very difficult situation we all find ourselves in with lockdown and knowing that Sam understands and is there to help gives me great relief. I have recommended Sam to a number of friends who are experiencing similar situations to myself and who are really stressed with certain aspects of their life as I know Sam and the great work she does can help them as she has helped me and continues to do so.”

My Mum used to get upset and now she is lot happier. I also learnt that bad experiences can be good as that you can learn from them.

Sam is cool she learnt all about Pokémon and gave me a bendy monkey to help me relax. Sam also has some really, really old fossils which I liked – I now have my very own one.

She also made me an audio file so I could listen to it at night which helped me sleep – I still listen to it sometimes especially if I start to feel a bit anxious.

Sam said I can come back and see her if I need to – she is very nice and very cool!

10 year old child (Autism spectrum )

Testimony February 2020 – Parent

From an early age I always knew that there was something with my son but could never put my finger on it. He went to school and got on ok was never the most academic but always tried hard, enjoyed school and was happy.

We then entered P5 and it all went wrong very quickly, we were called most days regarding his behaviour which was at times soul destroying! At home there was also a big change:he was moody and got angry very quickly over the littlest of things. He was reluctant to go out and lost interest in his out of school activities. It was like he turned into a different child overnight!

We tried everything; saw numerous Doctors, Psychologists and even a Cranial Osteopath but nothing worked; it felt like we were losing our son. One day our son broke down asking me to take the monster that’s inside him out – this broke my heart I felt as a parent helpless but knew I had to keep fighting for my son!

Getting no where with Doctors I started to do research and came across a story about a 12-year-old girl whose actions and life mirrored my sons – her Dad took her to see a Hypnotherapist, so I began to research all about Hypnotherapy.

After a lot of research, I came across Sam Luxford. After messaging Sam and telling her about my son she said she could help. Now I must admit after all we had been through; I was sceptical but was willing to try if it could help my son! Looking back, I have one regret and that is that we didn’t go to see Sam sooner!!!!

Sam got to know my son what he likes and based her sessions on this, meaning she made a real connection with him. Slowly she peeled back the layers of my son’s issues and had to re-train his brain to use the right side; it was flight or fight mode. Through re-training it changed how he thought his moods and his emotions showed him how to turn a negative into a positive.

After a couple of sessions, we started to see a change – our son was sleeping better, moods were not as varied, we felt like we weren’t walking on eggshells with him as much – we could talk to him without him flying into a rage! Halfway through the session we had our diagnosis, with our son being on the Autism Spectrum – this in itself was a massive break through and also allowed Sam to help with his understanding of this.

Sam also had a session with myself so that I could understand how I can help him more at home and understand where and how he sees life, allowing me to understand and help him better. In the 6 months since we finished our sessions with Sam my son is unrecognisable and has come so far; he is back to going out and in fact is doing more activities. He now has the mindset of not giving up if things don’t go his way! His school have said the change in him is incredible; he is calmer and more positive.

Sam has given us our fun loving, caring son back, I honestly believe that we wouldn’t be where we are as a family today without Sam’s help – for that we are forever grateful!
